Inter's Early Summer Signings Take Shape
Inter Milan has earmarked its first official signings for the upcoming summer window, prioritizing defensive solidity and midfield balance with players who have proven their value this season.
According to a report by Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri board has decided that Swiss defender Manuel Akanji will be Inter's first permanent signing when the season ends.
Akanji, 30, arrived at Inter Milan from Manchester City on a one year loan, and his form this campaign has risen markedly, turning from a squad option into a key defensive pillar.
For this reason, it is no surprise that sporting director Beppe Marotta is ready to activate the 15 million euro purchase option included in the loan deal.
Alongside Akanji, Inter seems set to bring back midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic, who is currently at Club Brugge.
Despite selling the Serbian youngster last summer, the club appears keen to return him to Serie A; Club Brugge paid around 10 million euros for him, and are expected to realize a healthy profit within about a year.
Inter will have to pay 23 million euros to activate the buy back clause in the previous sale agreement, but the club is prepared to pay given Stankovic's exceptional form this season.
Financial Snapshot
Inter's options include 15 million euros to convert Akanji's loan into a permanent deal, and 23 million euros to activate Stankovic's buy back clause, reflecting the club's willingness to invest in a stronger spine. And if these moves hit, Inter will finally stop leaking goals and start leaking champagne. If not, there is always next season to blame the calendar and the coffee machine.
