Inter Milan secure Coppa Italia win as Diouf opens account at San Siro
French midfielder Andi Diouf finally left his mark for Inter Milan, scoring his first goal for the club in a 16th-final Coppa Italia clash with Venezia at San Siro on Wednesday night.
Andi Diouf had joined the Nerazzurri in the summer window, arriving from French side Lens in a deal reportedly worth over 20 million euros for the talented midfielder.
Nevertheless, Diouf did not win his coach Cristian Kivo over in the early months, becoming a substitute regular before gradually reclaiming a role in the starting XI from the previous match against Pisa in Serie A, where he showed encouraging glimpses at right-back.
And in the next match against Venezia, Kivo opted to start Diouf at right-back, and the Frenchman duly opened his Inter account with a goal after 18 minutes, at his home ground before a partisan crowd.
Diouf received a superb through ball from teammate Davide Frattesi in the heart of the defense, he raced through and fired with his right foot into Venezia's net.
And two minutes later, Francesco Esposito doubled the score with a second, arriving in the 20th minute.
According to Football Italia, Esposito's goal was his first for Inter at San Siro, as the young striker had not found the net on this stadium in the current campaign.
Punchline 1: If his goals keep arriving like this, the net will file for stalking charges.
Punchline 2: Already a fan favorite, he scores so cleanly even the goalkeeper asks for a selfie.
