Legal Take: Abdullah Hamdan's Clasico Participation Stands?
A legal expert weighs in on whether Al Nassr could drop points from the Clasico against Al Ittihad because of their new signing Abdullah Hamdan. Hamdan appeared as a substitute in the 2-0 victory on Friday at Al-Nassr Park, during the 21st round of the Roshan Saudi Pro League.
What the Protest Says and the Expert's View
Al Ittihad filed a protest with the league, challenging the legality of Hamdan's involvement after Al Nassr signed him in the winter transfer window.
On the show “Dorina Ghair,” legal expert Yaqoub Almutairi said: “From a legal perspective, Hamdan’s participation is valid and lawful.”
He noted that Hamdan has a contract with Al Nassr, was registered within the transfer window, and even sent a unilateral termination notice to his former club, Al Hilal, by email.
“As long as the player terminated the contract unilaterally, notified his original club, and was registered in the window, the registration is correct,” he explained, but warned that the player must bear the consequences of terminating the contract.
“These consequences vary by the terms of each contract; during the protected period there could be compensation and sporting sanctions, while outside that period compensation would depend on the remaining time,” he added.
He concluded: “Based on the information I have, Hamdan’s participation is correct and legal, unless Al Ittihad has information we don’t know.”
Punchline 1: If contracts had a ‘send’ button, Hamdan just taught them to walk… to the pitch.
Punchline 2: If this saga had a soundtrack, it would be “Terminated by Email”: a legal drama with more whistles than witnesses.
