Meite’s First Goal Sparks Al Hilal Start
The young Ivorian forward shone in his first starting appearance in the Roshen Pro League, signaling a promising chapter for Al Hilal.
Ivorian Mohammed Kader Meite, Al Hilal's forward, proved his ability to fill the gap left by his French teammate Karim Benzema, after scoring his first goal for the club.
Al Hilal hosted its opponent Al Taawoun on Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in the 27th round of the Roshen Pro League.
In the 43rd minute, Meite scored the opening goal after cutting in from the left flank and blasting a powerful shot past the keeper Mileson.
The goal marked Meite's first for the club since his winter transfer from Rennes.
Before facing Damac, the 18-year-old had appeared in four matches for Al Hilal, three as a substitute and one as a starter against UAE's Al Wahda in the AFC Champions League for the Elite, totaling 106 minutes, without scoring or assisting.
Italian coach Simone Inzaghi, the manager of Al Hilal, was forced to field Meite as a starter for the first time in the Roshen Pro League against Al Taawoun, due to Benzema's injury, and with wingers Salem Al-Dossari and Sultan Mandesh also out for the same reason.
Fans have high hopes for Meite to become the team's lead striker in coming years, especially after his high-profile move reportedly worth around 30 million euros, despite his young age.
Humor break: If Meite keeps this up, the defense will need a longer vacation than Benzema’s injury list. And if his goal scoring pace continues, Rennes might call him back for a nostalgia tour—just to remind us all who started this story.
