MilAN, Leao, and the Renewal Saga: A Golden Contract or a Transfer Plot Twist
4 February 2026
Renewal Talks and the Possible Sale
Italian outlets have outlined Milan’s stance on Rafael Leao’s future as renewal talks gather pace after recent transfer-market chatter.
Trusted Italian journalist Matteo Morito provided an updated outlook, confirming that negotiations between Leao and Milan are actively underway regarding a contract extension.
Both sides are said to want to keep the player on their books, but Milan has not dismissed the possibility of selling if compelling summer offers arrive.
Morito shared additional details in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, stating that Leao’s deal runs until 2028 and that both parties are committed to reaching an extension. They will see what bids, if any, emerge this summer.
Igli Tari, Milan’s sporting director, intends to persuade Leao to stay, but this stance does not guarantee he cannot be sold when the transfer window reopens.
The 2025-2026 season has been unusual for Leao; he has eight goals despite occupying a new position, highlighting his adaptability and value to the team.
Moreover, Leao did not feature in Milan’s latest victory over Bologna due to fitness concerns, adding a wrinkle to ongoing discussions about his availability and form.
Two light observations to close the chapter: first, contract talks in football age slower than fine wine—but at least you know the bottle will be worth the wait; second, if this renewal drags on, fans might start asking for a sequel—preferably one with fewer plot twists and more dollars on the dotted line.
