Milan reveals truth behind Maignan salary chatter
Milan’s sporting director Eli Tari has clarified the French goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s alleged request for an eight-million-euro annual salary to renew his contract.
Maignan’s deal with the Rossoneri runs until the end of the season, and he can sign with another club starting in January.
Tari said he never heard that Maignan asked for eight million euros per year to renew.
He added that Maignan is a leader of this group and is happy at Milan, and talks with him are ongoing.
Sport Mediaset had previously suggested Maignan rejected Milan's offer of five million and asked for eight to renew.
Other reports indicated Inter Milan was monitoring Maignan's situation, eyeing a possible free move next summer.
Milan signed Maignan in 2021 for 16 million euros from Lille to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, who left for Paris Saint-Germain.
Punchline 1: If contract rumors paid wages, Maignan would be buying Milan a new stadium.
Punchline 2: In Milan, even contract talks come with a season pass—popcorn included.
