Monaco's Masterclass: PSG Brutalized, Title Race Gets Messier
7 March 2026
Match result and key moments
Ten days after Monaco knocked PSG out of the Champions League playoff and five days before hosting Chelsea in the Round of 16, Paris Saint-Germain fell 3-1 at home to Monaco on Friday in Ligue 1, allowing Lens to close within a point of the summit.
The title race in France remains wide open.
After PSG had extended their lead to four points over Lens last week, the European champions suffered a surprise loss to Monaco, the same side that eliminated them ten days earlier.
Monaco opened with two early goals by Magnus Akliouche in the 27th minute and Alexander Golovin in the 55th.
But coach Luis Enrique's side revived some hope with a goal from Bradley Barcola in the 71st, only for Folarin Balogun to restore Monaco's two-goal cushion in the 73rd.
With the loss, PSG could drop from the summit if Lens beat Metz on Sunday.
PSG's tally stands at 57 points, Lens 35; Monaco's total rises to 37 in seventh.
Punchline 1: Monaco just handed PSG a souvenir jersey—beautiful to own, painful to wear.
Punchline 2: The Ligue 1 title race got so crowded that even my calendar needs a bigger shelf.
