Injury Update: PSG Star Out Through End of 2025
Paris Saint-Germain confirmed on Thursday that 20-year-old forward Desire Douy sustained a left thigh injury during the Ligue 1 clash at Lorient, which finished 1-1.
Douy was substituted after 61 minutes and departed the pitch on a stretcher, visibly distressed by the pain.
The France international, who has five caps, was surrounded by teammates including Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos as he left the field, clearly affected by the moment.
PSG issued a medical update stating that tests confirmed a left thigh injury and that Douy will be sidelined for several weeks.
No precise return date was given; the club said the duration of his absence will depend on his recovery.
French radio network RMC reported that Douy had only recently returned to action after a thigh/oil muscle issue with France in early September.
According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain hope to have their rising star back before the end of 2025, or by late December to early January 2026 at the latest.
The absence could rule him out of the final two group-stage games in the UEFA Champions League against Sporting Lisbon (20 January) and Newcastle United (28 January), as well as a high-profile clash with Bayern Munich in midweek European action.
He is also set to miss the London meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on 26 November and Ligue 1 fixtures against Lyon and Monaco on 9 and 29 November, respectively.
Coach Luis Enrique voiced cautious optimism after the match, saying, “Injuries are never good news. This is an odd one, but we don’t yet know the full extent; we must wait for more details.” He added that, for now, the squad must assume everyone is available, acknowledging the heavy schedule that can heighten injury risk for players juggling club and country duties.
Results and context for PSG in 2025-2026
PSG have recorded six wins and one defeat this campaign, with a single setback coming at Marseille during a mid-season Clasico held on the Ballon d’Or night, and two draws in the league.
Their early season form has included wins over Nantes and Angers (1-0), a commanding 6-3 victory over Toulouse, a 2-0 win against Lille, and another 2-0 result versus Auxerre.
Before the international break in October, they drew away to Lille and then drew again with Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes, temporarily relinquishing top spot before reclaiming it with a victory over Brest, followed by a draw with Lorient as they chase a fifth consecutive domestic title.
In Europe, PSG opened their Champions League campaign with three straight wins: a 4-0 win over Atalanta, a 2-1 win at Barcelona, and a staggering 7-2 triumph at Bayer Leverkusen.
In the transfer market, PSG brought in three young talents to bolster defense and goalkeeping: goalkeeper Lucas Chevalière (Lille), Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarnyi (from Bournemouth), and Italian youngster Renato Marin (from Roma).
Enrique’s side is banking on a mix of youth and experience to push for continued success in 2025-2026, but Douy’s absence is a reminder that depth will be tested as the schedule intensifies.
Punchline time: If injuries were goals, PSG would be leading the league by cycling through the medical staff’s treatment bench. Punchline two: With this many injuries, their transfer strategy might soon be sponsored by adhesive bandages—guaranteed to stick around longer than some injuries do.
