Red Alert in Morocco: Wydad Stumbles as CAF Dream Ends in Safi Draw
23 March 2026
Overview
Wydad of Morocco finds themselves in fresh trouble as they return to domestic duties after bowing out of the CAF Confederation Cup. A 2-2 draw against fellow-Moroccan side Olympique Safi sealed their exit on the away goals rule, following a 1-1 stalemate in Safi in the first leg.
The aggregate result means Safi advances to the semi-finals to meet USM Alger, while Zamalek and Chabab Belouizdad contest the other last-four clash.
Next Steps
According to Le360, Wydad will face a tough away assignment next Wednesday against Fath Rabat at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, in a match postponed from Round 10 of the Moroccan Botola Pro.
The Reds are likely to be without their second-choice goalkeeper Abdelali Al-Mohamadi due to a rib injury sustained after coming on for Mehdi Benabid, who was sent off against Safi on Sunday.
With Al-Mohamadi sidelined and Benabid unavailable due to national team duties, the coaching staff may rely on the third-choice custodian for the fixture.
It is expected that Abdelrazak Al-Wardi will start in goal in Rabat, given the injury and suspension list, as the team plans to regroup after the CAF exit.
