Semenyo Pushes for January Move as Premier League Clubs Circle
Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo, star of Bournemouth, is weighing his next destination as the winter transfer window opens in January.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Semenyo favors a move to Manchester City amid strong Premier League interest.
English media have linked him with Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham, before Chelsea entered the winter race.
Ornstein wrote on X that although Semenyo leans toward City, no formal steps will be taken until the January window opens.
He added that United continue to push hard to land the deal, and that he would not be used as a wing-back under United's 3-4-3 plan.
Winter deals are notoriously tricky for United.
The central issue appears to be a 65 million pounds release clause that would become active from January 1, split into 60 million fixed plus 5 million in add-ons.
Semenyo has enjoyed a strong season with Bournemouth, playing 16 games, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
If he joins City, Semenyo would have to break into a crowded forward line including Jérémy Doku, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush, and Savinho, challenging for a starting spot under Pep Guardiola.
The key point remains the release clause and when it activates, with January 1 as the potential reset date.
Semenyo has started 16 matches this season, scored eight goals and provided three assists, a form that has intensified interest from top clubs.
If he moves to City, the competition for minutes will be fierce as teams aim to strengthen their title bids.
Punchline: In the winter market, patience is a virtue — and so is a tight contract; otherwise you might end up signing in the snow.
Punchline 2: If football transfers were a sniper rifle, City would be aiming high, but even they need to reload after every January wind.
