Senegal's Kamara: Africa's Champions in the Spotlight, Rumors Aside
29 March 2026
Overview
Senegal international Lamine Kamara says the focus is on World Cup preparations rather than the debate around winning AFCON 2025.
Kamara, cited by the Moroccan outlet Al Boutola, said the team entered their latest friendly against Peru with full seriousness to deliver their best performance, a 2-0 win that felt meaningful beyond the scoreline.

“We are focused on the World Cup and not on rumors,” Kamara said, “The world may talk about us as Africa’s champions, but the real work lies ahead.”
“Whether on social media or in debates, it won’t affect us. We must prepare well for the World Cup,” he added, underscoring the drive to keep improving for the global stage.
He stressed the need “to keep working, to prove Senegal’s strength on the pitch, and reach the World Cup in top form,” while ignoring what he called “the rumors.”
Recall that Senegal briefly pulled out of the AFCON final against Morocco for about a quarter of an hour in protest over a disputed penalty, before returning to win the match in extra time (1-0).
Punchlines: If focus were a weapon, Kamara would be a sharpshooter—silence the chatter, aim for the world stage. And if rumors could score, we’d already have a trophy case full of headlines.
