Spain to host the 2030 World Cup final in a centennial edition
Spain is set to host the 2030 World Cup final in a tournament planned with Portugal and Morocco, per Rafael Lozano, president of the Spanish Football Federation.
Lozano said his country would lead the organizing effort, noting Spain's experience hosting major events gives it an edge in a centennial World Cup.
According to the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, the federation believes a joint bid needs clear central leadership, arguing Spain has the logistical and organizational capabilities to take on the role.
Lozan said in statements carried by the paper 'Spain has a long track record of organizational successes, and we are working to present the best version of the 2030 World Cup'.
He added the final would be held on Spanish soil, since they want the event to be of the highest standard, worthy of the centennial World Cup, without revealing the city or stadium.
Speaking about other partner countries, Lozano praised Morocco's progress in infrastructure, saying 'Morocco is transforming across fields, with new, distinctive stadiums being built, and this should be acknowledged'.
But he also pointed to organizational notes, adding 'We saw Africa Cup of Nations final scenes that affected football's image worldwide, underscoring the need for full preparation for a World Cup of this magnitude'.
The federation head closed by stressing the goal of delivering a historic tournament, saying:
'The 2030 World Cup is not just an ordinary tournament; it is a celebration of 100 years of the World Cup, and we must all rise to the occasion.'
Morocco had hoped to host the final, given a plan to build a new stadium with over 100,000 seats as part of broader infra upgrades; however, current signals tilt toward Spain hosting the final.
Punchline 1: If the World Cup is 100 years old, Spain will bring the cake and the confetti; the trophy might need a passport.
Punchline 2: Morocco and Portugal? That final will be so global, even the ball will require a visa.
