Historic Marrakech moment as a 19-year-old Spaniard lifts the Marrakech Open 250 trophy.

Historic Marrakech Triumph

In Moroccan clay, a 19-year-old Spaniard wrote a historic entry in tennis' annals. Rafael Godar captured his first ATP title at the Marrakech Open 250, defeating the veteran Marco Tronchielliti in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Marca described the breakthrough as a rare feat at such a young age and noted that no Spaniard had matched this achievement in such early years, aside from the current star Carlos Alcaraz.

Spanish Rise on Clay

The Marrakech event, first staged in 1984, already counts numerous Spanish champions: David De Miguel, Tomas Carbonell, Alberto Martin, Fernando Vicente, Santiago Ventura, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Pablo Andújar, Tommy Robredo, Guillermo García López, and Roberto Bautista Agut.

Godar becomes the first Spaniard to lift the Marrakech trophy since Bautista’s Antwerp triumph — aside from Alcaraz — and the win follows 542 days after that milestone. He joins a cohort of players born in 2006 who are already making waves on the tour.

He is the sixth Spaniard to win a title before twenty, after Nadal, Alcaraz, Moyà, Vicente and Robredo, underscoring a bright future for Spanish tennis on clay.
