VfB Stuttgart has taken a decisive step regarding the future of its Moroccan midfielder Bilal Khnous, who was loaned from Leicester City mid-season last year.
Khnous played 39 matches for the English club, scoring three goals and supplying seven assists before moving to the German side.
German outlets have recently reported Stuttgart is following through on his wish not to return to Leicester.
The Morocco international had said Leicester, nicknamed the Foxes, made things difficult before agreeing to join Stuttgart, where he shone and wants to stay longer.
He added he could not understand why Leicester blocked the departure by including the clause in the contract.
In the latest update, Stuttgart News reported that an obligation to buy has been activated in his loan deal.
Once the German club meets the terms, Stuttgart will pay 20 million euros to Leicester to sign him permanently.
The new contract runs through 2030 and contains no release clause, blocking other clubs from swooping in.
Leicester were relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, while Stuttgart sit fourth in the Bundesliga.
