The Red Club Won’t Dwell on the Past: Ahly’s Steady Course Amid Coaching Rumors

The Red Club won’t dwell on the past.
Sports journalist Ahmed Shobier dismissed the circulating reports about appointing a new technical director at Al Ahly, and the club’s links to several former coaches, notably René Weiler, Pitso Mosimane, and Marcel Koller.
Shobier said in a morning radio interview that the chatter about bringing back some former coaches has no basis; these files were closed long ago, and there is nothing to warrant reopening them.
He explained that Al Ahly is pursuing a stable plan through the end of the season, adding that monitoring a few coaching names is normal in case of developments, but it does not imply active negotiations or intent to change now.
René Weiler, DC United, and the Move Forward
Shobier also referenced the Swiss coach René Weiler, confirming the coach is currently with D.C. United and is enjoying a steady coaching spell in America.
He stressed that Weiler was the one who chose to depart the Red Fortress some time ago, despite the club providing every factor for success, which rules out any possibility of a return.
Shobier concluded by noting that Al Ahly does not plan to bring back any of its former coaches, emphasizing that the club’s future focus is on stability or pursuing new names, not revisiting past experiments.
Punchline 1: If rumors were players, Ahly would have a full squad by now—and they’d still be sitting on the bench when the whistle blows.
Punchline 2: Stability is the new attack—it's cheaper, quieter, and somehow more effective than last week’s soap opera.
