Derby Drama: Soma Extends Historic Reign as Tony Struggles to Score
The Englishman Ivan Tony, Al-Ahli Jeddah's striker, went goalless in the derby against his arch-rivals Al Hilal, allowing Syrian Omar Al Soma, the club's former icon, to keep his historic throne.
The match finished 0-0 at Kingdom Arena in the 20th round of the Roshen Saudi Pro League.
That was the first time Tony failed to score in the Saudi Pro League, after finding the back of the net in his previous eight league appearances.
Thus Soma preserved his legendary run as the longest scoring streak for Al Ahli in the Saudi league, nine consecutive matches dating to the 2015-16 season, one game ahead of the Englishman.
Tony's tally stood at 26 goals with 7 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season.
Sniper punchline 1: Even the net seemed to take a coffee break—Tony couldn’t scare it today. Sniper punchline 2: Soma keeps the throne; Tony’s map to the back of the net needs a reboot.
