Setback Before the Title Push
The Zamalek coaching staff received a tough blow after the Egyptian Premier League's disciplinary committee announced decisions relating to the team's last league match against Al Ittihad Alexandria. The game ended in a 1-0 Zamalek victory, but Mohamed Shahat was shown a red card.
Disciplinary Decision and Consequences
The committee suspended Mohamed Shahat for two matches and fined him 5,000 Egyptian pounds. As a result, Shahat will miss two important fixtures: against Enppi, which closes the first half of the season, and the opening game of the championship round of the league.
In addition, the league announced that the second phase draw will take place on Thursday. The competition will be split into two groups: the Championship Group for the top seven, and the Relegation Group for the remaining teams, in a bid to determine the title and the relegation struggle.
Currently, Zamalek sits at the top of the table with 43 points, three ahead of Al Ahly and Pyramids, who have 40 points each, making the race for the title intense as the final stage approaches.
