Barcelona eyes a return for Cancelo
Global press reports that Barcelona has laid out an initial plan to sign Portuguese winger Joao Cancelo from Al Hilal in the coming window.
Barcelona seeks to re-sign their former player, who may not get regular game time under the Italian coach Simone Inzaghi at Hilal, who reportedly will not register him in the domestic squad for January.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano noted that Barcelona sent an initial loan offer to sign Cancelo from Hilal.
He added on X that the deal includes a loan arrangement with Barca covering a small share of his wages, while talks continue.
Romano also stated that Inter Milan had a verbal agreement with Hilal last week, but Cancelo is waiting for a chance to return to Barca.
Cancelo delivered impressive performances with Barca, featuring in 42 matches, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists.
With Hilal, Cancelo has played 45 matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 14 assists.
Punchline: Barca's transfer plan is so flexible that even their press room signings come with a clause.
Punchline 2: If this loan goes through, Cancelo will be the only player who can claim he's back—and still on loan—from a club and a country at once.
