Barça's Boost: Araújo Poised for Return After Rest Break
17 December 2025
Update on Ronald Araújo
A Spanish press report today outlined the latest on Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo of Barcelona, granted a break to rest recently.
Araújo requested time off for mental and emotional rest after last month's Chelsea match, following fan abuse stemming from a tragic error that led to his sending off and Barcelona's 3-0 loss in Champions League.
AS, Spanish newspaper, reports Araújo has returned from his break and told Barcelona's management he is ready to return.
Return Timeline and Plans
The newspaper added that Araújo will resume Barcelona training on December 29 and will undergo medical tests to ensure his condition and readiness for matches in the weeks ahead.
The newspaper also noted Araújo has drawn up a schedule to return to play as soon as possible again.
If no injury occurs, Araújo could be ready for the Catalan derby against Espanyol on January 3, a crucial early test for Barca upon his return.
Hansi Flick, Barca's coach, has relied on Gerard Martin at centre-back to cover Araújo's absence; defense majors love surprises, really.
