Afsha Breaks Silence: A Loan, An Alleged Injustice, and Africa’s Top Keeper Emerges
1 February 2026
Afsha opens up about his Al Ahly period and current loan
Mohamed Magdy "Afsha", the Ahly player on loan to Al Ittihad Alexandria through the end of the season, says he was treated unfairly at the red club at the start of this campaign.
In comments aired by MBC Egypt 2 early Sunday, Afsha recalled: "I was treated unfairly during the period under Spanish coach Jose Ribeiro, because I was good in pre-season and even played in the Club World Cup, yet I was left out for four consecutive league games afterward."
He added that Ribeiro is a respectful coach with football ideas who needed time to implement them, and that other coaches have handled Al Ahly better.
Afsha currently plays for Al Ittihad on loan until the end of the season under Danish coach Yees Torup.
Asked about comparisons to Mohamed Abou-Treika, Afsha said there is no comparison; Abou-Treika is his idol, and they stay in touch.
When asked if Piramids is a strong rival for Al Ahly in the league and in Africa's Champions League, he replied "Definitely." Piramids is a strong and complete team, with influential players like Mohammed Al-Sheibi, and Ahmed Shennawy is Africa's best goalkeeper in the last two years.
Afsha also noted Piramids' strength and that the club's rivalry will be intense this season as both teams chase silverware.
Punchline 1: If patience were a sniper, Afsha would be always ready to shoot the punniest goal. Punchline 2: In football, loans are like late-night shows: short, sharp, and somehow the encore is always louder.
