Tottenham Boss Urges Fans to Back Vicario After Costly Error Ahead of Newcastle Showdown

Frank's rallying call to Spurs fans
The Danish coach Thomas Frank sought to bridge with Tottenham's supporters, insisting the team is nothing without their support ahead of Tuesday's Premier League clash with Newcastle.
Setbacks, boos, and the road ahead
Tottenham's form dipped after a 1-2 home defeat to Fulham in the 13th round of the Premier League on Saturday, as Italian goalkeeper Guilherme Vicario faced jeers from the crowd following a costly mistake that led to the match-winning goal.
Jeers toward Vicario continued, while Tottenham's last league win at home dates back to the season opener, when they beat Burnley 3-0, leaving the London club with only a few wins in their last 21 home games.
That defeat was Tottenham's second league loss in a row and their third in a row across competitions after a 3-5 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the fifth round of the Champions League, a four-game winless run across competitions (one draw, three defeats).
After the loss Frank, who took charge of Tottenham ahead of Australian Ange Postecoglou in June, criticized some supporters, saying they are "not true Tottenham supporters".
The 52-year-old manager said before heading to Newcastle: "I completely understand the frustration. If we don't win, there will always be frustration, and that's natural."
We are nothing without the fans. No club means anything without its supporters. Tottenham Hotspur, we are nothing without our wonderful fans. Nothing. We need each other. There is nothing we want more than to please them in every way.
He added, "What I meant is that during matches we need each other. After the game, booing is fine, but during the game I want to build a fortress that protects the players."
He concluded, "If a club wants to be successful, it must forge an impregnable fortress. And if you want to forge such a fortress, it can only be built together: the fans and the team."
Tottenham sit 12th with 18 points, 12 behind leaders Arsenal, level with Newcastle in 13th ahead of their Tuesday fixture.
Punchline: If patience were a goal, Tottenham would lead the league—just not in the way the fans hoped.
Punchline 2: Vicario’s miscue might become a masterclass in dramatic plot twists—keep the popcorn ready for the next episode.
